Hospital and Ambulatory Surgery Treatment Center Licensing and Accreditation


All hospitals and ambulatory surgery treatment centers listed on this Web site are licensed by the Illinois Department of Public Health. Obtaining licensure means a facility must meet operational standards required by law that help ensure the safety and welfare of the people it treats. Licensing Requirements

Hospital Licensing

To provide for the better protection of the public health through the development, establishment, and enforcement of standards (1) for the care of individuals in hospitals, (2) for the construction, maintenance, and operation of hospitals which, in light of advancing knowledge, will promote safe and adequate treatment of such individuals in hospital, and (3) that will have regard to the necessity of determining that a person establishing a hospital have the qualifications, background, character and financial resources to adequately provide a proper standard of hospital service for the community.

ASTC Licensing

It is declared to be the public policy that the state has a legitimate interest in assuring that all medical procedures, including abortions, are performed under circumstances that ensure maximum safety. Therefore, the purpose of this act is to provide for the better protection of the public health through the development, establishment, and enforcement of standards (1) for the care of individuals in ambulatory surgical treatment centers, and (2) for the construction, maintenance and operation of ambulatory surgical treatment centers, which, in light of advancing knowledge, will promote safe and adequate treatment of such individuals in ambulatory surgical treatment centers.
